Southern Windsor County is home to a rich heritage, including the birthplace of Vermont, Windsor, and Springfield, the former heart of the Precision Valley machine tool industry. Historic properties exist through the region, including the “Stone Village” in Chester.
There is a diversity of businesses, from value-added manufacturing (with engineering expertise) to food production and distribution as well as media/publishing and health care. Parts of Southern Windsor County have some of the fastest broadband speeds in the United States, thanks to the leadership of Vermont Telephone Company.
